Review: Utama Spice Cocoa Lipbalm

Wednesday, November 27, 2013

I live in Bali. You already know that. What I love about Bali is many local companies produce natural products from natural ingredients for health and beauty, Bali is a very well known place for its spas. Do you know how many spas are in Bali? So many. Many of them use local products from local ingredients which reminds you for the truly Bali. The scent is special, it's just when you smell it, you know it's Bali. I feel that way when I go to a spa.

Utama Spice Bali is one of the local brand that produces so many good products for health and beauty from natural ingredients. I love natural products because it won't harm your skin and just give the benefits.

Short description about Utama from their web:
Utama Spice is a Balinese based company with its roots deeply entrenched in Ancient Balinese Herbal medicine. Utama Spice was started in 1989 and incorporated in 2000 by Melanie Templer and Dayu Suci after they realized that the ancient Balinese medicinal herbal knowledge that has proven to provide both extremely powerful and effective medicines for the Balinese over the past hundreds of years is being pushed aside to make room for modern day medicines. This problem is further compounded by the fact that the medicinal herbs themselves are being lost as they are continually being replaced with cash crops, ornamental flowers, and villa development projects. With their focus on "giving people back their birth right" as Melanie and Dayu put it the duo set out to put an end to this self-perpetuating cycle by developing the best all natural products nature can provide. Shining a light on the magic and impotents of plants that has already been lost in so many parts of the world.
For complete profile you can go to their web Utama Spice Bali.

I went to their newest store in Sanur and bought the lipbalm. There are 4 flavors: cocoa, wellkiss, tangerine, peppermint. I'm interested with cocoa because the BA said cocoa is the most moisturizing of them all and I like the smell. Who doesn't like cocoa? Let's see it!

Packaging

The packaging is made from plastic like typical lipbalm. It's sleek and same with other Utama Spice products which use white color for all their bottles. The colored label describe the flavor along with the color. Cocoa is brown. Tangerine is orange, etc.

The ingredient list is printed quiet big because I realized they don't have many weird chemical ingredients which usually so many in a product and cause the printing font is so small until it's hardly to read. I also like the fact that I can really understand about the ingredients. Nothing too chemistry that we have to be a doctor to understand it. Lol.

Review

The lip balm texture is nothing like what I've ever seen before. It's unique. First time seeing this I think it's a lip scrub because it has granules in it. The brown part is cocoa and the white granules is from coconut I think.

It smells like chocolate but subtle, not a strong chocolate. Love it!
It has no flavor, just tastes like coconut oil with a little bit of cocoa smell. Nothing weird. It's save to lick it. ^_^

It gives moist and glowing finish. Light and not waxy. It's more oily than Burt Bees and not waxy like EOS lip balm if you curious how it would be.

I swipe a couple times because I want to show you the white granules. It doesn't feel rough and it helps smoothen my lips and after a couple times it turns into smooth oily texture and moisturize the lips well. I can feel than my lips get smoother because of this and it saves time so we don't have to scrub the lips too often. Like that double action.

After a couple time using it, the granules show up on the lip balm. The texture is like a lip exfoliator, right? I like to use it before sleeping. It gives nice and smooth lips in the morning. If you want to use it before lipstick, just use it a little bit or it will be too oily.

Pros:
+ Cheap
+ Made from natural ingredients
+ Double function as lip scrub and balm at the same time
+ Smells good
+ Moisturizing

Cons:
- Oily if you use it too much, for base before lipstick just use 1 swipe

Overall:
For cheap natural lip balm, it is really good. After putting many lip products full with chemical ingredients, this can give you a rest and just give the natural benefits for your lips. I love it and want to try another flavor. I like how it can smoothen my lips too because of the granules. It is a save for my pocket and you have nothing too loose.
